Site owner pleads guilty to failing to comply with remediation requirements
OWEN SOUND, ONT-A fine of $7,000 was levied against Brownfield Solutions after the firm, owner of an historical industrial site in Owen Sound, pleaded guilty to two charges under the Environmental Protection Act. Brownfield Solutions was issued several provincial officer orders by the Ministry of Environment (MOE) directing the company to conduct environmental monitoring and remediation of the industrial site. As part of these activities, the company was required to sample the contents of two city-controlled monitoring wells weekly and register a certificate of prohibition on title. Brownfield Solutions failed to meet these requirements, and was charged under section 186(2) of the act. On a joint submission, the company was fined $3,500 for each of the two breaches for a total fine of $7,000.
