Contaminated site course combines theory, technology field demonstrationsThe 10th annual Contaminated and Hazardous Waste Site Management Course is being presented by GOwen Environmental September 20-25, 2004 at the Metropolitan Hotel in Toronto.
Combining theory, practice and outdoor field demonstrations, the comprehensive, one week indoor-outdoor course covers all issues related to managing subsurface contamination. The 15 instructors in this course, along with the technology demonstrators, will provide participants unique access to a broad base of practical experience and an excellent opportunity to network with leading professionals.
This knowledge will be coupled with a hands-on approach to understanding the tools and techniques for managing contaminated sites. Some experience is helpful, but not necessary, as the course teaches basic principles before addressing more advanced topics.
Registrants may choose either three or five days of in-depth discussions by 15 leading environmental, soil, sediment and groundwater experts representing academia, consulting, and government from across North America. These experts will provide a thorough, unbiased overview of hydrogeology and geochemical principles, site assessment procedures, risk assessment and risk management tools, remediation technologies, and management issues relating to contaminated and hazardous waste sites.
The course will also provide three hands-on workshops on computer modelling and environmental management support software used in groundwater characterization and remediation (Visual MODFLOW); risk assessment (RBCA); environmental decision support; remedial action cost engineering requirements (RACER); and contaminated site management.
The program includes a half-day of hands-on outdoor technical demonstrations of characterization and remediation technologies. In addition to a 1,200 page notebook and resource CD-ROM, those completing the course will receive 4.7 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
