Northern Gas Project Secretariat office opens in Yellowknife
YELLOWKNIFE, NWT-The Northern Gas Project Secretariat (NGPS) office was officially opened in Yellowknife early last month, following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement formally establishing the Secretariat. The Agreement outlines the key role the NGPS will play in support of the Northern Pipeline Environmental Impact Assessment and Regulatory Chairs Committee in the areas of logistics, communications, administration and technical service for the environmental impact assessment and regulatory review of the proposed Mackenzie Gas Project. The NGPS will facilitate effective public participation in this process, in particular by informing the public on how and when to get involved. The NGPS office will include seven staff members, including Brian Chambers, appointed earlier in 2003 as executive director, plus a finance and administration officer, a logistics co-ordinator, a communications manager and an information management co-ordinator. Another NGPS office will open in Inuvik in the near future. More information on the Secretariat is available on the Web site, www.ngps.nt.ca, or by calling (toll free) 1-866-372-8600.
