Company, owner convicted of illegal waste site operation
SAULT STE MARIE, ONT-Ken Pierman Contracting and company owner Ken Pierman have been fined a total of $10,100, plus a 25% victim fine surcharge, after being found guilty of operating a waste disposal site without a certificate of approval. In November 2001, Ministry of Environment inspectors found a pile of used tires on a property owned by Ken Pierman Contracting in Sault Ste Marie. Approximately 1,368 cubic metres of stockpiled tires were on the property, which is not an approved waste disposal site. The company was fined $10,000 and Pierman was fined $100 for violating section 27(1)(b) of the Environmental Protection Act by operating a non-approved waste disposal site.
