TORONTO, ONT-As part of the Ontario government's commitment to implement the recommendations of the Walkerton Inquiry, it is creating a new drinking water management division within the Ministry of Environment. The new division will have lead responsibility for program and operational activities relating to the protection and provision of safe drinking water in Ontario. It will be headed by an assistant deputy minister who will also serve as the chief water inspector. The creation of both the division and the position respond to recommendations made in Commissioner Dennis O'Connor's second report on the Walkerton Inquiry. The MOE will put the new organization into place over the next few months.
