NEWS SUMMARY: Hamilton joins aboutREMEDIATION.com as first municipal sponsor

HAMILTON, ONT-The city of Hamilton has signed on as the first municipal sponsor for aboutREMEDIATION.com, Canada's leading Web site source of information about brownfield cleanup and redevelopment. aboutREMEDIATION.com will showcase Hamilton's innovative approach to brownfield redevelopment, including its ERASE (Environmental Remediation and Site Enhancement) strategy. "As one of the oldest industrialized cities in Canada, and a major steel-producing centre, the city of Hamilton is no stranger to brownfields," said Luc Piccioni, brownfield co-ordinator in the city's economic development department. "Promoting Hamilton's approach to brownfields would increase national and international awareness of redevelopment activities in Ontario and help other Canadian municipalities with their brownfield redevelopment efforts," he added. The move follows Hamilton's recent launch of a major new branding strategy, which includes unprecedented renewal activity as well as a new municipal logo, ongoing redesign of its Web site (www.city.hamilton.on.ca) and initiatives to attract economic development. Other aboutREMEDIATION.com sponsors include Aon Reed Stenhouse, the law firm Gowling Lafleur Henderson, Royal LePage Commercial, Environment Canada (Ontario region) and the Ontario government. The site is a joint project of EcoLog Information Resources Group and OCETA (Ontario Centre for Environmental Technology Advancement). "We are excited to have Hamilton as the first municipal sponsor on the Municipal Matters Web feature and to showcase their innovative efforts to redevelop brownfields," noted OCETA's Kevin Jones, director of aboutREMEDIATION.com.
