Toby Vigod named to head Environmental Review Tribunal
TORONTO, ONT-Ontario Environment Minister Leona Dombrowsky has appointed Toby Vigod chair of the province's Environmental Review Tribunal (ERT) for a three-year term. Vigod, who had been vice-chair of the ERT since December 2004, has more than 25 years of environmental and natural resource law experience, and has led policy development at senior executive levels in both the federal and provincial governments, as well as in non-governmental organizations. Heading up both environmental and forestry tribunals, she has presided over more than 70 hearings and has written more than 150 decisions, including decisions upheld by the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the Supreme Court of Canada. The ERT hears applications and appeals under the Environmental Assessment Act, the Environmental Protection Act, the Ontario Water Resources Act and the Pesticides Act, and leave to appeal applications under the Environmental Bill of Rights, 1993.
