Nova Scotia Health Dept cancels biomedical waste disposal contract
HALIFAX, NS-The Nova Scotia Health Department last week cancelled its conditional contract awarded in April to Medic Delivery Services for the disposal and destruction of the province's biomedical waste (ELW April 25, 2005). The department said the Dartmouth company was unable to meet the deadlines specified in its original proposal. Discussions are now in progress with the next highest-scoring proponent in the procurement tendering process, Medical Waste Management, of Brampton, Ontario. Nova Scotia generates approximately 2.2 million kilograms per year of biomedical waste, which is currently trucked to Sydney for incineration.
