First regional waste authority established for northern Saskatchewan
REGINA, SASK-The first regional waste management authority for Saskatchewan's north was formally established last week. The provincial government has providedthe Lac La Ronge Regional Waste Authority $119,250 to support the consolidation of municipal solid waste management services in the area. The funds will be used for a variety of purposes, including the purchase of collection and recycling equipment. The new Authority will serve communities within a 25-mile radius of the town of Lac La Ronge. Smaller local landfills within the area will be closed and transfer stations set up to facilitate the movement of waste from other towns, villages and First Nation communities to the existing landfill site in the town of La Ronge.
