Niagara region partners expand landfill gas project
NIAGARA FALLS, ONT-Ontario Environment Minister Leona Dombrowsky joined officials from Walker Industries, Abitibi-Consolidated and Integrated Gas Recovery Services (IGRS) yesterday to celebrate the expansion of the Niagara Waste Systems landfill gas utilization project which uses landfill gas to create energy. By capturing methane gases from the landfill, the project is reducing the environmental impact of the disposal site, both locally and at the global level. "This project is an example of leading-edge innovation that is sustainable, practical and protects our communities and our environment," Dombrowsky noted. "Walker Industries and its partners are showing us that environmental leadership goes hand-in-hand with strong economic performance."
