Greenhouse operation fined $20K for diesel fuel spill

ST CATHARINES, ONT-Lakeshore, a greenhouse operation in the municipality of Lincoln was fined $20,000 and levied a victim fine surcharge in connection with a May 2002 release of diesel fuel from a storage facility. Approximately 400 litres of diesel fuel made its way to a nearby storm drain and into Eighteen Mile Creek. The company pleaded guilty to a charge under section 30(1) of the Ontario Water Resources Act (OWRA) of discharging diesel fuel that may impair the quality of the water of any waters and was given 30 days to pay the fine.
