Manitoba Water Directory helps bring groups, agencies together to share activities
WINNIPEG, MAN-Manitoba's new Water Directory will help Manitobans work together on water and aquatic ecosystem matters, said Water Stewardship Minister Steve Ashton as he released the new document on July 21. The directory is an extensive listing of federal and provincial government departments and agencies, non-government groups, professional associations and community groups that have an interest in water and aquatic ecosystems. Ashton said this is the first step in a longer process of helping Manitobans become more effective in addressing water related matters. "We have found that many times, organizations and groups didn't know each other existed and in fact had complementary objectives," said Ashton. "This directory is a simple, but effective, way of putting Manitobans in touch with each other and appropriate government departments and agencies. When community groups and agencies know of each other and their activities, partnerships develop, networking begins and resources can be shared to solve common problems," he added. Groups or agencies which are not listed in the directory but would like to be are invited to provide their information on-line to Manitoba Water Stewardship, www.gov.mb.ca/waterstewardship.
The directory is available from Manitoba Water Stewardship, Box 12, 200 Saulteaux Cres, Winnipeg R3J 3W3, 204/ 945-7487, toll free 1-800-282-8069, ext 7487, FAX 204/948-2877.
