Sask Environment monitors treated effluent release from Cold Lake, Alberta

REGINA, SASK-Saskatchewan Environment recently received information on an accidental release of a large amount of treated effluent from a municipal facility in Cold Lake, Alberta into the Beaver River which runs into Saskatchewan south of the communities of Pierceland, Dorintosh and north of Meadow Lake. While potential environmental or health impacts appear minimal at this point, the department is advising recreational users to exercise caution in using the Beaver River for swimming or fishing until further notice. Saskatchewan Environment will continue to monitor the situation and test for water quality. Information on impacts will be provided once testing is completed.
