Federal funds support initiative to promote environment sector careers
OTTAWA, ONT-The federal government will provide $2.83 million from its sector council program to support the EnviroCareers and Infrastructure projects being conducted by the Canadian Council for Human Resources in the Environment Industry (CCHREI). The CCHREI EnviroCareers project will receive $333,655 to update its Web-based learning tool aimed at attracting youth to careers in the environment sector. The $2.5 million directed to the Infrastructure project will provide stable operating funds for the sector council. This will allow it to focus on responding to skills needs, representing the collective interest of industry partners and developing links with the educational system. Sector councils bring together business, labour and educational stakeholders in key industries to define and resolve common human resources and skills issues. There are currently 29 national sector councils covering approximately 40% of Canada's labour market.
