New NB Power chief to probe Orimulsion deal

FREDERICTON, NB-David Hay, who took up his duties as the newly-appointed president and CEO of New Brunswick Power on March 8, has been assigned the task of looking into the circumstances surrounding the utility's deal to burn Orimulsion at the refurbished Coleson Cove generating station. NB Power is suing the Venezuelan supplier of the fuel in connection with the supply agreement (ELW March 1, 2004). Premier Bernard Lord has specifically asked Hay to: determine how best to secure a source of Orimulsion for Coleson Cove; propose a suitable alternative plan in case Orimulsion cannot be obtained for the plant; determine whether there were any failures in NB Power's process that led to the current situation; and to report to the Standing Committee on Crown Corporations by the end of March.
