BC Environmental Management Act revisions to accelerate contaminated site redeve
VICTORIA, BC-Amendments introduced earlier this month to British Columbia's Environmental Management Act are aimed at speeding the rehabilitation of contaminated sites to make them suitable for investment and redevelopment. The Environmental Management Act Amendment Act will clarify and expand the role of government-recognized private sector environmental professionals and provide clearer definitions. Other provisions will make minor changes to sections governing codes of practice. The revisions are part of an overall modernization of the province's waste management legislation which began last year with the enactment of the Environmental Management Act. Future amendments will address contaminated site liability, dispute resolution, appeals and cost-benefit analysis.
