Marsulex obtains fourth project contract for FGD technology at Chinese power plant
TORONTO, ONT-Marsulex's power generation group has been awarded a contract to supply technology, engineering and selected equipment for Beijing Datang Electric Power's Gaojing power plant in China. The company's limestone-gypsum flue gas desulfurization (FGD) system will be installed to reduce sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions by 95% from Gaojing Units 5-8, a total of 300 MW. The contract, which represents the fourth successful project in China for Marsulex, was awarded through Ever Cleaning Environmental, a U.S. firm specializing in commercializing technologies in China. The project, to be completed in early 2005, will generate approximately $3.5 million (Cdn) in revenue for Marsulex. "The construction of new power plants in China and the retrofitting of existing coal-fired plants with FGD technology to improve air quality in advance of the 2008 Olympics, has made China the world's leading growth market for FGD systems," said company president and CEO David Gee, adding that Marsulex "last year appointed three new licensees in China to further develop our business there." Marsulex recently completed supplying similar technology and services to the Shajiao power plant in Guangdong province. More information is available on the company's Web site, www.marsulex.com.
