Steelcase honoured twice by RCO Waste Minimization Awards

MARKHAM, ONT-Steelcase Canada has just announced its receipt of two Ontario Waste Minimization Awards from the Recycling Council of Ontario (RCO). Steelcase's Markham facility received the platinum Business Award for its commitment to environmental policies and programs throughout every level of the company. The company was also presented the Environmentally Sustainable Business Award, which was selected from the Business Award finalists. The RCO recognized Steelcase Canada for its focus on reduction initiatives, which includes eliminating paints and adhesives and using exclusively 100% water-based adhesives. The facility also installed a new pre-treatment system which enables the re-use of more than two million gallons of water annually. Steelcase Canada was also lauded for shipping its products wrapped in re-usable blankets and eliminating packaging wastes. Over the past two years, the company Steelcase has reduced its aluminum wastes by 48%, corrugated cardboard by 40%, fabric by 74% and solvents by 76%.
