Agreement will protect Bois des Esprits urban wilderness
WINNIPEG, MAN-An agreement between the Manitoba and Winnipeg governments, a corporation and an environmental group will protect 66 acres of a forest known as the Bois des Esprits, along the Seine River in Winnipeg's St Vital district. The agreement covers category 1 and 2 lands, which have been ranked by the city as the most important for protection, and the Manitoba government has committed itself to work toward protecting the remaining category 3 section of the forest, a total of 13.7 acres. Save Our Seine River Environment (SOS) and Grandin Park are the non-government organization and corporate partners in the agreement. The move to preserve the forest was also supported by numerous other non-profit groups and companies, as well as individuals.
