Enviro Tire Technologies pleads guilty to C of A violations, fined $14K
BRAMPTON, ONT-Enviro Tire Technologies recently pleaded guilty to three charges under Ontario's Environmental Protection Act of failing to comply with conditions of a provisional certificate of approval (C of A) for a waste disposal site. The firm, which operates a used tire waste processing site in Brampton, was fined a total of $14,100, plus a 25% victim fine surcharge. Inspections by Ministry of Environment (MOE) officers between October 2002 and March 2003 found that Enviro Tire had violated several of the operating conditions mandated in its C of A. The company was charged under section 186(3) of the Act for: failing to clear the ground of all tires and tire units once every 24 hours; failing to provide a copy of its up-to-date contingency plan to the district manager within a specified time period; and failing to submit financial assurance in the amount of $25,000 to the Ministry. The company was fined $4,700 for each offence and was issued a probation order prohibiting it from committing the same or any similar offences for the period of one year.
