Review process begins for NB Power's Belledune permit renewal

FREDERICTON, NB-New Brunswick's Department of Environment and Local Government has initiated a 180-day public review process for New Brunswick Power's application to renew the air quality operating approval for the Belledune Thermal Generating Station. The facility's current five-year air quality operating approval expires March 31, 2005. Written comments will be accepted until January 28, 2005. As a Class 1 source of emissions, the facility's approval must undergo a public participation process prior to issuance or renewal, in accordance with the provisions of the provincial Clean Air Act' public participation regulation. The process covers air quality related issues including questions or comments regarding air emissions, pollution control equipment, conditions proposed in the draft approval, monitoring and reporting requirements, and enforcement and compliance information.
