ECO/PEOPLE (April 22, 2002)
The swearing-in of Ernie Eves last week as Ontario's new Premier brought in a restructured provincial Cabinet as well as new Ministers. Environment and Energy are once again twinned, with Chris Stockwell appointed Minister as well as Government House Leader. (Former Minister Elizabeth Witmer is now Deputy Premier and Minister of Education.) A new Ministry of Enterprise, Opportunity and Innovation, with Jim Flaherty named Minister, merges the innovation, science and technology functions of the former Ministry of Energy, Science and Technology with the functions of the old Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. Jerry Ouellette has been appointed Minister of Natural Resources. Chris Hodgson, as Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, will be aided by two newly-created Associate Ministers, Brian Coburn and Tina Molinari. Their responsibilities will be divided into urban issues (including the Greater Toronto Area) and rural issues and development.
