Robert Gourd, Canadian Commissioner of the International Joint Commission, will be representing the IJC at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa, from August 26th to September 4th. Gourd, accompanied by Dr Gail Krantzberg, director of the IJC's Regional Office in Windsor, Ontario, will bring the IJC's extensive experience in the management of boundary waters between Canada and the United States to the global dialogue on sustainable development and the environment...Ballard Power Systems recently appointed Dennis Campbell as president and chief operating officer. He was previously president and CEO of Home Care Industries, a filter system manufacturer...BFI Canada has named Martin Irish as vice-president, Ontario and Manitoba, responsible for overseeing all waste management operations in the two provinces...Jim Nubel has been appointed by Ontario Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Chris Hodgson to head the Eastern Ontario Smart Growth panel. Nubel is the retired manager of government energy services for Enbridge Consumers Gas-Ottawa. Hodgson has also named Diane Gagner, mayor of Chatham-Kent, as head of the Western Ontario Smart Growth panel. Other members of the newly-created panels represent industry, local government, the environment, agriculture and the development industry.
